Pros

Great people. Best group, as a whole, I've ever worked with. Small company with good growth potential means that there are lots of opportunities to contribute to building a professional organization that's capable of the next level. Very interesting products and challenging work. I'm never bored here.

Small company with good growth potential means that there are opportunities to contribute to building a professional organization that's capable of the next level. Meaning: growing pains! To push to the next level, you have to insist on doing things differently and professionally. That can mean fighting inertia. It can be challenging to convince people at all levels that when you are growing, you can't do it the same way as you always did and expect the same level of quality and productivity. There are best practices at every size. You have to be willing to use those appropriate to your size and be willing to change when your size changes. See, I told you there were opportunities to contribute to building a professional organization that's capable of the next level. If you want a job that has a well-defined playbook then this isn't you cup of tea. But, if you want contribute to producing a best of class playbook - you'll love it.

Lots of young, energetic local talent. A good place to start and get a little experience for recent college grads not ready to leave home.

Don't trust the job description. Regardless of what the job description says, new engineers are brought in to do the tedious documentation for a handful of insiders with seniority. Hired engineers should expect to be forced into nontechnical roles of verification testing or design transfer. The moment you show any resistance to this, you'll promptly be shown the door. Typical employee retention is less than two years, the precise amount of time it takes one to fully realize their situation and find another job. Management team and project managers are very inexperienced, with many pretenders who try to fake it with overconfidence. Due to their insecurity, management team deliberately isolates and excludes anyone who knows more than they do, rather than take advantage of the experience to improve processes. As a consequence, nothing ever gets better. The development process is invariably chaotic and inefficient. Overly confident management thinks they can manipulate employees with Machiavellian shenanigans, but these schemes are transparent.
