Frequent layoffs and furloughs over the last year created a stressful environment and uncertainty around job stability. Although benefits were maintained during furloughs, many employees would likely have preferred severance or at least some support. At times, company spending on travel and events felt difficult to reconcile while staffing reductions were occurring.
