I’m writing to share my experience working at the Seamill Hydro, as I believe transparency is important. I’ve worked at the Hydro on and off over the years, during which I’ve met some of the most talented and dedicated colleagues. My family and I have long held the Hydro close to our hearts, with countless memories made there, including celebrations and family gatherings. The Hydro has played a large role in my life, and I’m grateful for that. Recently, though, working at the Hydro has become challenging, especially following the transition to RAD Group ownership in September 2023. My partner and I worked there during this change, and we both experienced several difficulties along the way. My partner was let go on October 2nd due to absences related to a difficult year for our family. We both lost loved ones early this year, which made balancing personal and work commitments especially challenging. Unfortunately, her employment ended without formal documentation or any prior disciplinary meetings, which was difficult to process. Following this, I made the decision to leave as well. While I have great memories with the staff, my recent experience reflects some concerns I feel are important to share. In my view, the work environment has changed since the new management took over, with challenges like staff turnover and reduced training that I believe have added stress for employees. I’ve observed an increased workload among staff, and I’m not alone in feeling that the atmosphere has shifted. I want to highlight that my experience with the current Operations Manager has been particularly challenging. While I don’t know their specific responsibilities, I personally felt that their approach didn’t foster teamwork. I believe several others share similar concerns based on conversations I’ve had. From my perspective, the working environment could benefit from improved collaboration and responsiveness to employee feedback. I am sharing these reflections not to discourage people from supporting the Hydro but to bring awareness to the areas that I believe could enhance both the employee and guest experience. My hope is that the RAD Group will take staff concerns to heart and work towards creating a positive environment that aligns with the mission and values they’ve shared publicly. I believe this change would be beneficial to both the business and the wider community.
