Pros

You work with great and dedicated people. Health benefits are a plus. Movie props are a unique and interesting thing to work with.

Kontras

Poor wages that are not competitive or even close to fair given the work expected. Multiple employees have left this job out of pure frustration for other “opportunities” like Uber and Postmates as they make more with those services. Multiple current employees work long freelance hours at night just to make up for the low pay. Walk around the office and you’ll see LinkedIn and other job sites open on tabs throughout. I wonder why... Prop Store demands a professional job at an unprofessional pay rate and uses the luster of its product to lure in hopeful people who want to work in film. Frankly, most of the staff are struggling to get by, especially as this place is in the LA area. Rent swallows most of your paycheck as a result. There's something interesting and sad that happens when you watch someone handle something worth more than they make in a year. You start here with low pay and never even get close to the base pay for your position. Management will tell you a low-ball wage and act like it is reasonable and average as if we are completely unaware of what people actually get paid. They refuse to acknowledge that they don’t pay a living wage for the Los Angeles area but will proudly proclaim “London/Los Angeles” in their logo. All offers of data from multiple sources are completely ignored and brushed aside with a shrug or an insistence that it is not accurate. It’s almost surreal to see single items sell multiple times a week at twice, three or even four times the amount you make in a year or multiple years. The company exploits the luster of its enticing product and leverages that with a competitive job market so they can hire excited but desperate new candidates at low rates. Many people here want to remain in the film industry and stay as a result. There are employees who have worked here for years and have contributed significantly to what Prop Store is and still get paid significantly lower than base pay for their position in the greater Los Angeles area. Prop Store hires low and forces loyal employees to work towards basic entry level pay. Despite increasing output and sales, things remain hard for employees here. Keep that in mind next time you see the headlines saying “Prop Store sells X items for hundreds of thousands of dollars.” The goal of this company is to hire low and keep it low -- simple as that. You should consider this before applying here. If you are desperate for a job, get experience here and touch some cool stuff, by all means. But have an exit plan! This place will capitalize on you with promises and hope but nothing improves. So, if they tell you “next big auction you’ll get more” don’t trust them -- it doesn’t ever happen. I don't have any issues with the people at this company but have major disagreements with how they treat employees. As a result, I felt an obligation to warn anyone possible.

Pros

If you really love movies this place is the best. Its in the outskirts of Satana Clarita but such an exciting place to work. If you have ever dreamed of seeing the Terrminator in person, or a Hoverboard or a light saber this is the place to be.

Kontras

Its gets VERY busy during auctions so be conscious that everone has to up the pace to get things done. Its a great team though and they all pull together.

Pros

Cool and historical movie memorabilia.

Kontras

Fast food now pays more. Don’t take this job seriously because if they fire you, you can get more handing out nuggets and fries. Sad but keep that in mind. Until they get fed up with you, take time to enjoy the cool stuff. Have little nostalgia journeys. Make friends you can use as references as you won’t be relying on management for that. Don’t stress out trying to meet quotas. You will always fail and if you don’t then you just proved that you can do more and will be expected to do more and will be dinged in evaluations for slipping back to regular quotas lol. Some jobs are like this. You just have to play the game of how long till they fire me. Be pleasant with everyone and don’t hide your ways. Make sure they know you aren’t going to bend over for them and let them call the shot. The worst they can do is fire you.
