Pros

Having spent a number of years in recruitment across several well-regarded firms, I have a strong basis for comparison — and Penna is up there with the very best. There are clear plans in place to ensure the organisation continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider in its space. The past 12 months have involved some structural change, which naturally came with a period of adjustment. However, the business is now moving in a really positive direction. Teams are working far more collaboratively than before, and there’s a much clearer sense of shared purpose across the organisation. One of the most positive developments has been the shift towards focusing on vertical markets within local government rather than purely regional structures. This approach makes a lot of sense for both clients and consultants, allowing people to build genuine expertise in their sectors and develop stronger, more meaningful relationships. There is also a renewed vision for where the business is heading, which is creating opportunities for people who want to work hard, grow, contribute ideas, and play a part in shaping how we support the public sector. Overall, it feels like a business that has gone through change (as most do) but is now in a stronger position because of it, with plenty of opportunity ahead. The bonus structure within interim is very competitive, the benefits package is strong, and there are real opportunities to progress your career within Penna and the wider LHH and Adecco Group. The senior leadership team are approachable and visible. Their doors are always open, and they actively encourage people to get involved in projects and share ideas. They are also clear about the organisation’s vision and the role individuals play in delivering it. Finally, I love how visible we are - from sponsoring and presenting awards, to presence at conferences and delivering our external Aspirant Chief Executive programme.

Kontras

Not so much a con, but the organisational change, like any transition period, can take time for everything to settle fully. The shift to vertical markets is the right move in my view, but it does require consultants to adapt and build new sector networks. As with most recruitment environments, it’s also a fast-paced business with high expectations - which isn't for everyone, but incredibly rewarding.
