Pros

- Good salary and benefits - Great coworkers - Some exciting projects and interesting clients - Work life balance is good

Kontras

- Zero opportunity for growth - Culture verges on toxic - management gossips about the performance of their employees to that employee's peers - You can get assigned a project, work on it for a full week or two, only to have your work brushed off and forgotten about - Arbitrary performance benchmarks; nothing you do is good enough

Pros

Orbis Ops is a mid‑sized government contractor with several strong mission-focused teams. The Federal Intelligence team supports contracts that benefit from a close partnership with customers and a deep understanding of their mission needs. The International team works with foreign partners and the DoD, offering unique and highly valuable experiences in that space. The Operations & Capabilities team brings modern technical expertise—DevOps, AI/ML, and data services—to deliver and enhance internal applications and customer-facing solutions. The interview process was done well, and had three steps, An informal online with the recruiter who stepped me through the process, then meeting in-person (or optionally online) with the team I would work with, an interview with the Ops&Capabilities team, and then an interview with the top leadership. The company can be somewhat conservative regarding benefits and reimbursement policies, but this is balanced by strong job stability, a healthy culture, and a consistently positive work environment. Colleagues across the organization are professional, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. On my team, leadership supports flexible schedules and occasional remote work days, which helps offset the heavy local traffic and contributes to a good work–life balance. I had the opportunity to spend time with top leadership, and they are good people, I feel comfortable working here!

Kontras

As with most mid‑sized government contractors, there are a few areas where challenges show up. With strong personalities and highly specialized subject‑matter experts, occasional interpersonal or political dynamics can surface. Mission‑focused teams help people stay aligned, but they can also unintentionally create silos or uneven visibility across the company. Communication between teams can sometimes lag, simply because each group is moving fast in its own direction. Benefits and expense policies tend to be on the conservative side, which may feel limiting compared to smaller firms trying to grow fast or larger firms with wider budgets. Career development is heavily tied to the contracts you support, so opportunities can vary depending on where you’re staffed. As with many contracting environments, some decisions are influenced by customer constraints rather than internal preference. That said, these issues are relatively minor and manageable, and they’re common in similar organizations. None of them outweigh the positive culture, the professionalism of the people, and the stability the company provides
