Pros
- Always extra overtime to be had
- Interest in cross-training when requested
- Easy promotions if you're committed
- Free time on the clock, depending on the grouphome you work at
- Transitioning to part-time from full or vice-versa is easily doable, would be a good job for a student.
Kontras
- You're working with mentally & physically challenged persons. That takes a certain type of person.
- Chronically understaffed, hence the readily available overtime
- Low pay for workers means low interest in doing a good job, and in the health care industry, some of what I saw is deeply troubling
- Lack of modernization; Lots of paper shuffling and lack of accountability
- Senior positions are often held by people who aren't fit for them (hence why it's easy to get a promotion), and aren't paid well even if you get them
