Cutbacks over the years mean you may be doing the work that used to belong to two employees. Management doesn't care about the professional growth of the employee and if they do, they don't know the first thing about following through. They send e-mails to the whole firm announcing big verdicts, implying that this will somehow trickle down and be a "good year" for all, only to disappoint everyone annually but the most senior partners.
