As a Software Developer /Engineer– Integrations
Your workday will consist of this:
5+ Hours Mandatory War room calls everyone has to participate Everyday 5 days a week and it usually runs to 6, 7 or 8 pm. If you have something to do you’re told to set your volume down and work until you hear your name - Very nonproductive and if one person is getting an issue resolved which can take hours, you still have to be on the call the entire time. It becomes almost prison like.
1 hour stand up to go through everyone else's projects and if you’re lucky you will get to yours
1 hour PM/BA IS Combined Daily call. Can sometimes be a gripe session the entire call.
So that's 7 hours of your day. Then try to get work done.
You are not taught to understand, read and work with the crappy EDI BA requirements. You get requirements that tell you to look at another requirement for one coding specific and another requirement for something else on the same project upper Management looks the other way and nothing I mean nothing ever changes.
.
It is acceptable to get a test file the day of GO Live from the client. Is it 8 pm when you get it, yes, okay well I guess you’re going to have to work till Midnight to get it done. This is very frequent and clients are allowed to change requirements the day the project is due.
Not in your job description but you will be on a weekly Service now ticket rotation. You will spend many hours trying to figure them out and still be expected to meet your project deadlines. Tickets that are P2 must be worked in 8 hours, if you get 4 and you have a project, then you don't sleep.
Tickets you have no idea how to fix for lack of experience and training -the mindset is throw them in the pool and see if they can swim. This is how it is in all areas. You will not get proper training to do your job and the training you get is very convoluted. Like getting an instruction book with half the pages torn out. This is a daily pattern.
Then, once you’re in your position for a while you will get pager duty.
At the end of the year your merit increases can range from .5 to 1.5% if you’re a rock star. (Yes that's .5) so all the blood sweat and tears will be not so generously rewarded. More like a slap in the face.
5 developers on the team have resigned over the past few weeks, some that did not even have another job to go too. What does that tell you? This company does not care about employees and work life balance is merely a bad joke for them.
But wait there’s more. The crass and vulgar language used in the war room calls by the top tier management. F-bombs here and there, ok, we all do it. However, when words that include a male rooster +sucker and a bag of the male organs is frequent in mixed company. Where in the professional book of ethics is this okay.
Having the group being told by upper management We suck and We suck more at least once or twice a week is always a pleasure especially if you are not provided the right training and tools to make a difference and prevent it.
Then comes Mandatory Vaccines and proof if you have to go into the office, unless however you work 45+ miles away from the office which you are allowed to work from home.
Negotiate your salary wisely as you will be working insane hours and the stress to get'er done is unhealthy. Kiss your children and your wife goodbye before you accept this offer.
