Kontras
Most of the people who built Mercer's business and formed the company's positive culture are gone or leaving with the new CEO onboard. The current strategy to cut cost and maximize profit is horrendous. People are leaving in flock. The current CEO manages the company like an insurance firm, not a consulting firm. HQs check each single consultant's billable hours on a quarterly basis, and check for both revenue and profit figures on a QUARTERLY basis. It's very short-term focused and damaging to employees' sense of belonging to the firm. Worst is that those executives do not understand how consultants on the front line work - they are detached from the operations and just sitting in the ivory tower looking at revenue/profit numbers, which are essentially the only thing they look at. The company is now laying off its people - which it claims to be the most important assets of the firm, because managers need to please their supervisors by matching up the profit numbers, so that they need to cut cost, aka employees in order to meet that goal. I joined the company 3 years ago and now it's a totally different place. It's becoming a 2nd Towers Watson.
