These several corrupt, unprofessional and insecure individuals will reward politics over competence, and set you up to take the blame if you make them look bad (which is unfortunately easy to do). Watch your back and don't participate in things that don't make any sense; if things don't make sense then like Judge Judy says it means somebody's lying.
