Pros
Nothing much, average benefits, non-competitive salary. The people who work there are good to work with, nice to talk to.
Kontras
Where do I start? The first impression you get from this place is "wow" what a great company to work for, with all these exciting goals, features, projects. Once you get in, you quickly realize they just grind you on a cheese grater until you bleed and die. They task employees with projects that have little to no information regarding it. Because the President wanted this to happen, so senior management pushes that down towards employees. Sad thing is, senior management are all yes people except for 1 or 2. They never say no to his ideas. And most of the time, those ideas are not realistic at all, looking at the time and cost. And also, note that he's not always in the office, why? Not sure... Senior management pushes forward with these unrealistic ideas to implement with no hesitation. First, they don't even have the skill sets, experience, or knowledge to do it. Second, they expect the people in their own team to do the work without much guidance or information, and expect them to just figure it out themselves. No support at all from management. There's no career support, even though you expressed what you're interested in doing or learning. There's no support in terms of work load or the project itself. Good luck trying to get help from directors or VPs. Some directors perform horribly, can't meet their targets or goals for a good year, and yet somehow they managed to not get fired, but someone in their team gets fired. Which seems like someone is the scapegoat for it, but it won't be managers. Directors also can't seem to manage a team properly. They create no team atmosphere, they just assign the tasks and go away. If you have any issues, and you bring it up to HR, he really does nothing for you other than to listen to your problems and brush you off once you step out of his office. I haven't seen him bring the employee issues up to the President. Even if he did, nothing was done about it. In terms of the product itself, yeah, it might have been great and was the first place winner, but that was 20 years ago. Look at the other CRMs, they're much more intuitive than Maximizer. How they market Maximizer, is putting lipstick on a pig. It's still horrible and ugly after you take the lipstick off. The person who does UI and UX has been there for a good 10 years in the same position! And what "improvements" has he done for the past 10 years? Patched up fixes here and there. There hasn't been an actual revamp of the product. The product looks like its from Windows 97! Way to go to spend a lot of money redesigning the logo and the website, but yet, you've neglected your own product. Shouldn't that come first? Why put so much effort marketing something if you got nothing great behind it? It just comes with disappointment and resentment from customers. The owner, is also the owner of a major real estate developer in Vancouver. He's never around, and he'll pop by once in a while to see how things are going. Honestly, he probably doesn't care, because his real estate projects makes him millions compared to Maximizer. And this attitude shows from top down, starting with the president. As long as it doesn't lose money and sink in the red, he's totally fine with whatever this company does. Basically, this company feels like it is a wealthy person's toy company, they're just playing around with no real intensions of doing something great with it. The space also seems very dead. You may think it is lively, but it's not. Most of the people there, who have been working there for a long time, are people who want a stable job, don't want to move up in the company, with no aspirations or goals. Sadly, Maximizer hires great people, but they're walking out the door really quick. The ones left behind... well... they just want a job. There were times where people were let go with no apparent reason (who were not in a sales job). In the past, I've seen a constant turn over, where at least one employee leaves every month. They're also off to better jobs with higher pay.
