Pros

I absolutely loved working at MII. Anne and Nicole are great mentors, and really offer themselves to all the interns. The tasks are completed on your own time, with checkins with the larger group, offering a lot of flexibility. I also loved the "Meet the Expert" series, where industry professionals would come in and talk to us about their work and offer personalized advice for us.

Kontras

Because the internship was remote and the hours were self-created, there wasn't the same work atmosphere that you would gain at other internships. However, Nicole and Anne really go out of their way to get to know each and everyone of the interns and facilitate dialogue amongst the group. The internship is also unpaid, but a very valuable learning experience.

Pros

I absolutely loved working with Nicole and Anne and the other interns this summer — everyone is super hardworking, supportive, and extremely passionate about MII's mission. They created the space and gave me the knowledge I needed to grow, both in terms of my project as well as in terms of professional/networking skills. Nicole and Anne also really go out of their way to support the intern team and are always happy to answer questions, offer thoughtful advice, or just chat to get to know you better. They made it really easy to learn through their detailed schedules and thoughtful projects, and are quick repliers! I have never worked with more organized employers who put so much thought and care into their work — they've set the bar high for my future internships.

Kontras

A very small downside to working for MII is that it operates remotely. However, this offered me greater flexibility in terms of work schedule and Nicole and Anne still fostered a sense of community through weekly coffee chats and team-wide meetings.
