If you think you are getting hired for a specific job title, then you'd be mistaken. You'll get hired as a Project Assistant which was explained to me as helping around the studio and tutoring children. I accepted a low wage because it seemed fair for the job description, but I soon learned I was completely taken advantage of. This title basically means you run the entire company. You could be creating all the curriculum and lesson plans for the studio, teaching children, responsible for marketing to businesses and clients (including designing all the marketing materials such as posters, flyers, email campaigns, etc...), managing the studio and staff, responsible for reaching financial goals, and designing video games and apps all at the same time. The working conditions were extremely unfair and stressful. Everyone had different wages for a similar amount of work. We were also not paid the correct amount for the job we did. The amount of work given was too much to accomplish in one day so we would end up working overtime and not getting paid for it. She claims we can apply for overtime if we talk to her first, but when we do she would not recognize it. Sometimes we would even work at home and during our lunch times to make sure it was completed by her deadlines. It was not a simple matter of learning how to multitask or manage time, it was a physical incapability of completing the job because there was too much to do in one day. We were always extremely short-staffed (4-5 people) and constantly begged for her to hire more people to help alleviate the workload. We all pretty much did the same thing, except we had one or two specialties on top of that. Some of us would be teaching, creating curriculum, marketing, hr manager, and managing the studio all in the same day. Some will be teaching, creating curriculum, marketing, designing video games, fixing the company website, and developing a business plan all at once. With 8 hours in a day, that is not enough time to be doing all that. There will be days where the studio is filled with kids with 5-6 hours dedicated to teaching them as well as dealing with the above list of jobs. AND our boss will come to us with a brand new idea to change the entire business model of the studio and will give us until the next day to give her a business plan. That leaves only 2-3 hours that day to complete that. Which then we'd have to take it home and work all night. Occasionally she'll give us a few days, but really that's not enough time to come up with a new business model. And just a reminder, she hires people with no experience in that area. We were all hired under the pretense that we will be tutoring children. None of us have experience in creating business plans, marketing, hr, etc... This business plan situation is a serious issue. We all have worked there for about a year and we are still redesigning it to this day because our boss comes in and says things like, "I came up with a new idea last night" or "I visited this one place and saw what they were doing and now I want try something similar." She is very spontaneous with her decisions and very impatient, which is why we have such tight deadlines. We will reach a plan, it will get approved and marketed, then sometimes up to a week before it's due to be set in motion, our boss will come to us and have us redo it all.
