Great team to work with. Resourcing is never an issue. Excellent support for projects.

Kontras

Forward vision is sometime narrowed by lack of experience outside of MPB.

Pros

Nice Co-Workers Some OK site workers That's about it really. I can't write much more.

Kontras

Assistsnt buyer role was basically a buyers role on lower pay as you manage your own categories. Heavy workload due to under-staffing procurement function not growing injunction with business. No measurement of spend per site. No understanding of negotiations on price - it is believed the work load is that heavy there was no point of negotiating the price as "the product just needs to get to site asap" No forward thinking and high running costs due to last minute nature. There were many times the procurement function would be told that they need several tons of cement for next day deliver asap or else the work will stop. Bad site management. Negative work culture from top to bottom level - Many times the family would fall out over small things in the business. In the procurement function and the accounts payable function, this would all be aired. Heavy bureaucracy and 'old boys club' mentality - Some of the site management cannot do any wrong. For example a site manager wanted some new work boots but wouldn't accept the standard we issued across all sites. He demanded a pair costing 150 pound paid for by the company as the boots we offered "were for the scrubbers". When told no he rang the owner to complain. As he is part of the old boys club we were told to just give him anything he wanted. Small family business - Although this could be a good thing for empowerment of functions, however the bureaucratic culture makes people avoid accountability. There is a strong blame game in the business. 1950's style values - it was always assumed, from a high level, that accounts payable was a woman's job and that site work was a man's job. No progression - There is no room for progression on this company from a procurement point of view. Many salaries stay the same for years and wouldn't even grow with the outside world. High staff turnover - this is due to Low wages, high stress from job and management, low worker moral and no job satisfaction. .
