Company adds little value to any program. Everything is politically driven (promotions, work, etc.), nothing merit based. Work is largely non-technical. MITRE operates on the "spray and pray" method for deliverables, that is, just produce paperwork, quality doesn't matter the sponsor will likely be pleased with something. MITRE management likes to pat themselves on the back saying how great they are, but the reality is they are a B-list company wasting taxpayer dollars doing unnecessary work. The vast majority of managers would be shown the door at most other companies.
