Pros

People: My coworkers were some of the smartest, most talented, and hardest working people I've met. Product: ESP is a good product. I always felt we were making a positive impact on the world. Salary was great and benefits were pretty standard as far as other places I've worked.

Kontras

Culture and Poor Leadership: It was a culture of grinding with poor work life balance. If you don't use your paid time off, you lose it, and it won't get paid out after you leave. But many people have large balances of PTO because they are overworked. Management has trouble saying 'no' to customers on projects with constantly changing requirements, so many projects would run on and on, placing ever increasing pressure on implementation teams. Continued to add VPs and other executives to the executive leadership team, yet failed to bring in (enough) new business and/or reduce the cost of doing business, so now going through multiple rounds of layoffs, getting rid of the people responsible for doing the actual work. Executive leadership also would make decisions that impacted several projects / initiatives without soliciting the input from the experts responsible for doing the implementation, which IMO had negative consequences on the overall results. Not a lot of transparency on the direction of the company from management. Also, fairly siloed in that trying to roll out new processes across the customer ops team was incredibly difficult with mixed results. Not all appropriate stakeholders are included in such decisions. After I was laid off, as previously mentioned, I didn't get any unused time off paid out. Was only offered two weeks severance and given a document that had links to a few job boards and the contact information of some recruiters. No 401K match.

Pros

- Opportunity to make a real, positive impact with a powerful, innovative product. - Fully remote / virtual set up, work from home with 100% autonomy. - Start-up vibes, always exciting and keeps you thinking. - Fun problems to be solved with really smart & diverse people. - GREAT benefits - esp for a smaller company. Company pays 100% of my healthcare, vision, dental + life insurance and short term disability. - New FTO (flex time off) = no more max hours = no more stress about running out of vacation or sick or personal time. - Leaders and HR are genuine people who care about people and are very accessible and easy to talk to. - New senior member on the exec team (President) that has a successful background in helping to rebuild companies. He seems very transparent & has a confidential forum where people can ask questions and share ideas or concerns. He answers those openly and publicly for all of us to see so very trusting. - Career development - always something to learn, they offer career workshops and a lot of on the job learning, cross-functional training opportunities, conferences, etc.

Kontras

- We had a recent restructure that, naturally, has created some confusion and worry among some people. But it feels like that was a smart decision so should calm down soon once everyone settles back in. - If you are super social and thrive on more in-person work + not a fan of zoom meetings then this might be a challenging place. - Working across different time zones and now global customers = some possible odd working hours but not for all and only occasionally. - 100% virtual also comes with challenges around communication, relationships, knowledge sharing, etc but Slack is super helpful and there's a weekly company wide meeting where we get regular updates and celebrate anniversaries & big wins.

Pros

A few teammates made tough projects easier to get through.

Kontras

Leadership lost its way completely. They are always confused and change routes. The pay was average, and extra effort rarely led to anything meaningful. Time away from work was hard to protect, and many people stayed connected even during personal time. Support and training were limited, so most of us learned by trial and error. Leadership was horrible, and priorities changed so often that teams were always adjusting. The ceo talked a lot about big goals, but the day to day experience felt disconnected from those plans. If you want stability, beware, because layoffs, confusion, and people quietly leaving became a normal part of the culture.
