Pros
The HR team at Kmart was pretty accommodating for me around my schedule most of the time, especially considering it's a retail store. While the pay wasn't great, I also was making more than many friends were at fast food restaurants, and I didn't come home smelling like work.
Kontras
Corporate management hog-ties store management, so all decisions are made by headquarters rather than managers on the "front lines". Newer, younger employees training is often inadequate, and therefore create a lot of slack for other hard-working employees to clean up, and management either doesn't realize it or does nothing to stop it. Company culture of management and associates is not as pro-customer as it should be (though better than Wal-Mart's culture this way). Customers pay for the products, and pay the paychecks indefinitely, and yet most employees still shrug them off like nuisances. Managers don't help this culture as much as they should. Little or no advancement opportunities available for those willing to work hard. No incentive to bust your butt, because at the end of the day your paycheck is the same size as someone else who sat on their butt the entire time while you're drenched in sweat from clearing pallets. Management does nothing.
