Pros

Kabbage has been a great company so far. I admire the vision of our Founder Rob. He truly is a wonderful person. There is great experience to be gained here along with excellent opportunity to climb up the ladder. However there are still few differences that have unintentionally made Kabbage India look subordinated. Ever since the new finance member joined Kabbage India, there have been some significant changes that have cropped up & made team India dishearten. The main aim seems to be removing/reducing all of team India’s facilities.

Kontras

3 recent changes that has left me dishearten about being part of Kabbage India -: 1- Expensify for India has been dropped down to Rs 100 on the other hand US has a cap of $75. This seems to reflect the trust level Kabbage has with their employees specifically in India. In the town hall, we were informed that there is a law in India which forced them to reduce it from Rs.500 to Rs.100. The previous organization I worked with had over 1000 employees under their payroll. So why can’t Kabbage do it for just 80 employees? Do we really get anything for Rs 100 nowadays? 2- Travel Change – Previously we had an option to take any means of transport & we would get reimbursed. But ever since the last change, we have Uber as the only available option. The difficulties & the time taken to get a cab in Bangalore during peak office going hours is a game of luck. You can never really expect to us to rely only on Uber for our day-to-day transportation. We anyways have to reach office & if we don’t get Uber , we are bound to take any other means of transport. That means we must pay for our travel from our own pocket. What do you say about these ingenious ways of cost cutting? 3- The most important & infamous change is that you have reduced the international travel expense from $50 to $30. Is there any other company which gives out just $ 30 for travelling to the States? When anyone from Us travel to India, they stay in Leela & they don’t have any limit on their expenses. The company seems to be implying an underlying parity between an Indian travelling to US & an US citizen travelling to India. The new policy makes it implicitly clear that apart from dinner & lunch for weekends there are not goona be any other reimbursements. It is very inconvenient for an employee to pay the bills for each expenses. I am still wondering what benchmark are you setting by making the travel allowance $30? We should at least be paid as per US standard for those many days or the minimum wage per hour as per US rule. We would not mind taking care of our own personal expenses if you pay us as per US standards.

We appreciate your feedback about our vision and leadership. We know that each of our team members’ happiness and productivity are key to achieving our company goals so we are sorry to hear that you feel as though we are reducing the facilities in our Bangalore office. We actually are not reducing expenses, in fact, we are doing quite the opposite! As you are aware, we are in the process of building a top-notch facility for our team members in Bangalore. This new facility will be three times larger than our present office to support our planned growth as well as help to ensure comfort and connectivity for our team members. Our expense policy allows our team members in Bangalore to be reimbursed for any out-of-pocket reasonable business expense with no cap. We have a similar policy in the US though the threshold for providing receipts is different between regions. What you might not realize is that US based team members don’t have to provide receipts for expenses under $75, ONLY when their credit card is linked to Expensify. Otherwise, receipts are required for reimbursement no matter how little the expense. See the policy details on confluence for more information. We acknowledge the practical challenges with Uber availability during peak hours. We have already rolled out revisions to the guideline, where team members can choose their transport based on their own convenience and will be reimbursed for the expense. We listen to our members actively and feedback from the team helped to revise the guideline before it was even in effect! Traveling team members are given up to $30/day as a cash advance when needed and can submit any additional reasonable business expenses for reimbursement. We also have several measures in place once our Bangalore based team members arrive in the U.S. to help them feel at ease. These include access to our corporate Uber account, mobile connectivity, unlimited food and beverages throughout the office, and two beautifully furnished corporate apartments in a great part of town, a block from our Atlanta office. We truly are committed to ensuring that each of our visiting team members feel at home while in Atlanta. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. At Kabbage, we are all shareholders, and each of us is therefore unconditionally committed to making Kabbage the best place to work!
