The Kansas City office of Intertek had recently had major managerial changes and was left with a lack of strong and knowledgeable leadership. The department was selling projects to clients that the clients did not need and did not understand the hazards of the work which resulted in putting staff directly in harms way to complete projects (such as mixing hazardous waste streams without proper sampling or proper PPE).
