Kontras
The recent restructuring of the marketing department appeared to be carried out without sufficient effort to understand how the department functioned beforehand, creating sustained and unnecessary disruption. The addition of some new hires during the restructure has created an “old vs new” dynamic. While some new hires have brought fresh ideas, the integration between newer and longer-tenured employees hasn’t always been smooth. Existing experience and institutional knowledge can sometimes be overlooked by newer hires in favour of rapid change. There can be a tendency to assume that previous approaches were wrong rather than taking time to understand why things were done a certain way. Some newer senior hires appear highly focused on demonstrating impact and advancing their own profiles. This has resulted in decisions that were performative or change-driven for visibility, rather than grounded in a deep understanding of the business or what will have the most meaningful long-term impact. Feedback doesn’t always feel like a two-way process. Raising concerns or offering alternative perspectives to newer senior hires can sometimes be met defensively rather than being treated as constructive input. The department has seen several leadership changes in a relatively short period which has made it harder to maintain consistent direction and ways of working.
