Half the employees quit and started their own company in August. It was chaos. Instead of improving the company blind spots, the leaders threw ten thousand dollars at the remaining employees begging them to stay. The LA leadership team style of management is micromanagement – which does not facilitate trust in their employees. Senior manager decisions are often usurped or contradicted by leadership who are ignorant about the business. As a digital management company many of the LA talent managers do not understand social platforms other than Instagram. The talent managers price their clients out of branded campaigns, and believe all managers should have the same pricing on usage rates. They don’t have a waitlist of influencers that want to be signed there. The LA team are not rigorously signing clients. The LA leadership team pits employees against one another telling the group “this person will make you step your game up” after a new hire joined the team. What kind of manager does that to encourage teamwork? The leadership team is interested in conformity instead of growth. Any introduction to a new tool or process is met with “this is how it’s always been done” which is the most ‘we don’t want to change’ statement if ever there was one. A large amount of unnecessary energy is dedicated to where the group sits in the co-working office. Leadership would call the full team into a meeting to reprimand an assistant in front of everyone. It seemed like bullying in my opinion. Disrespect in an uneven power dynamic is bullying. The cultural competence and racial bias in this workplace needs serious improvement. When asked about the company’s efforts to hire more diverse candidates, the LA team leader explains that the company does recruiting in low-income neighborhoods in London - which has nothing to do with LA and assumes diverse candidates are only in low-income neighborhoods. Rough. Salaries are not competitive and too low for California. Bonuses are discretionary (also not competitive) and may have to be paid back to the company within a time frame if you decide the company is not a good fit. New hire onboarding is terrible. Payment cycles are monthly.
Pros
Membership to a co-working space
Kontras
There is a reason there is so much turnover in this company and many employees have left. Poor management, bullying and extreme lack of awareness. Managers will treat those below them like absolute dirt.
