When I got hired at IncomeStore I had no idea I was a pretty weak SEO. In my mind, SEO was all about building tons of links and stuffing your pages with exact match keywords. Boy, was I wrong. The SEO consultants that the company uses taught me all there is to know about proper site crawling, indexing, 404s, canonicals, sitemaps, robots, semantic relevance, the right way to build links and many more. Not to mention the extensive trainings that I was given with some of the best SEO tools available. They say ignorance is bliss... with all the knowledge I have accumulated I still consider myself a mediocre SEO, but I’ve made huge strides. The company is constantly expanding, adding new websites, new projects, and new clients. Business-wise this sounds amazing, but internally it is a constant struggle to scale-up, grow your people, and meet goals. I am incredibly grateful to have been chosen for a management position. The last three years, since I was appointed PM, have been immensely rewarding. I am leading an incredibly talented team and working on super interesting projects. When I go to bed at night I feel accomplished. I have passed the stage in my life when money was the top priority. I really feel the need to point out how stressful project management in IS can be. You are juggling with responsibilities, client expectations, and the needs of your team. Some decisions are hard to explain internally, while mistakes can be hard to swallow for clients. I feel like I am constantly walking on the edge of the precipice – one false move and your client get upset. I have shared my concerns with the management, especially since I know I am prone to anxiety, and they have been very supportive. I know growth is a great thing business-wise, but I just hope we could have more stability.
