There was a round of layoffs early 2024, then by later 2024 we seemed to be hiring several positions that were effected by layoffs. Perhaps this is just a consequence of managing at scale in an uncertain environment and the leadership team just guessed wrong on where we would be as company but this was a bit of a head scratcher. It makes me a little curious about what might drive the leadership team to consider a future layoff.
Also, within the team and individuals that I work with closely, there have been a handful of departures in short succession, seemingly driven by a significantly higher comp offered by to the leaving employees. I'm hoping leadership, HR, and relevant parties are taking note and will make adjustments to comp because I've seen us let some talented people walk out the door.
