Pros
First and foremost: the people here are amazing. You can tell that leadership values the whole human they hire, and not just the output that person produces. In my old workplaces my managers were threatened by my interest in writing and editing, seeing it as a signal that I was less interested in customer support than my peers on the team. Here, I'm welcomed into conversations about copywriting and content production, and looked to as an expert in areas in which I'm skilled. Interviewing for this job was like getting to know a new crush: we wanted to know everything about each other, and every new thing we learned was exciting and made us more interested in one another. They truly put empathy and thought into their hiring. Every day I get to work on something I truly care about: humanizing the workplace, keeping employees engaged and fulfilled, and helping them craft their work life to bring them a sense of purpose and fulfillment in their whole lives, both inside and outside of work. We're solving big problems together, and it's thrilling to feel like we're on the cutting edge. I really enjoy having a lot of autonomy in my role, and all throughout my time here I've been given the freedom to define my role and carve out a schedule that works for me and priorities that keep me motivated and excited to roll out of bed on a Monday morning. I've become one of those people who says "TGIM!" in the work slack. I'm not in a technical role, and I feel like I'm being compensated fairly for my work, really valued for what I'm brining to the table. I feel like if I were to keep going in the way I've been going I might even be able to negotiate a raise, which I've never felt comfortable doing before. The company values transparency; everyone's calendar is available and you're encouraged to just find time that works and set up a meeting. We all share what's true and real for us in that moment, even if it's just that we're really tired at the end of a long week and not paying the best attention to that last slide. Our values: Belief, Curiosity, Excellence, and Resourcefulness, are evident every day, in every interaction. I haven't worked a lot of places where I can truly say that. It's not that we're all pointing to a poster on the wall with the words and a slogan: we're putting them into practice.
Kontras
Things can get a little chaotic! It's a real startup and growing fast, so there's a lot of change happening all the time. If you don't enjoy wearing multiple hats, you might have to put up some boundaries around your time and your role to focus on what's most important to you. Every time someone needs to step back from a project, it's handled with grace and supportiveness.
