Pros
- Great company to work for if you have kids and need to take a lot of time off work. - Good entry opportunity for someone who's fresh out of college and wants to work in an agency. - Very casual work environment, if you don't like to wear business clothes. - When you leave work, it stays there.
Kontras
A one-word description of Howard/Merrell: stagnant. This is a company that's stuck in the past and doesn't care to grow and keep up with the industry. Most deliverables are sent to the client without a strategic plan in place, goals set, or results measured. It is basically just a free-for-all, fingers crossed that the client won't know any better. If you genuinely care about your clients' success, this is not the place for you. Howard Merrell's staff is a reflection of its stagnation. Year after year, the management has lacked the ability (or desire) to recognize when the old-timers have become complacent and in some cases, toxic. It was not unusual for staff members to gather in cubicles and whisper gossip about the person sitting across the way from them. In a thriving agency, there's simply no time for this. Pay is far lower than the industry average - even for North Carolina. Between the low pay, stagnant work ethic and negative staff attitudes, turnover rates are extremely high.
