Pros
The travel, the friends, the job was great with the right manager, interesting training opportunities on the right ship.
Kontras
Didn't vet a lot of managers, some were just shockingly awful. Didn't vet a lot of staff - ended up with colleagues who didn't speak a lick of english on an english only ship. commission was calculated unfairly - staff who were "experts" would earn less than colleagues without specialisms, because the colleagues without would be able to just stand at a till processing purchases, while specialists had to spend significant time with customers - previous group commission was great because we all helped eachother, but afterwards there were far more arguements and we were no longer a team, I would not help customers so much just so I could earn commission by standing at a till - terrible idea really hardings. At interview was were tole that we should keep pay quiet when onboard because we were one of the "best paid departments" which I later found out was just a straight up lie, and we were one of the worst paid onboard. The only real good thing was the travel and friends, and with the covid restrictions and no shore leave I know to still currently be onboard most ships, and knowing the pay and commission to still be the same, I cannot think of a genuine reason why anyone would ever consider this job. If you want to travel and work, until covid is GONE this is a BAD IDEA.
