Pros
If you are new to the tax world, you do get a lot of easy hands on experience to get your feet wet as well as get to work with some very knowledgeable folks. Coworkers are great, flexible schedule.
Kontras
Block has shifted from a service minded industry to a retail minded industry, which lacks client relationships. Upper management likes to delegate their responsibilities to the managers on site and let them take the blame for their shortcomings but swoops in to take the credit when there is success. Even after multiple complaints to HR and employees leaving the DGM still has a job somehow that he is unfit to hold. I likely would have endured the companies shortcomings longer than my six year run if it wasn’t for such poor oversight of the people put in place to oversee districts. Leading up to and during tax season the training is great but new hires are left in the dust once tax season is over and the turnover is pretty bad, you’re lucky if you get one or two tax pros to stay. Pay is not commensurate with experience.
