Pros

Interesting, no day is like the other, you never know what you may come across. You get to see a lot of different and interesting items, you can learn a lot about a vast majority of different sought after merchandise but only if you already have some prior knowledge of retail, sales, brands and just stuff in general. If you are not a knowledgeable person with the ability to make decisions independently, you will not do a good job in this position.

Kontras

Doesn't care about disabled employees or the accomodations that they give to those employees. They will do everything in their power to push you out or to block you from actually being able to implement your accomodations and when that doesn't work , management will just falsify information and be bold enough to blatantly lie in order to get you fired by filing false claims. Not only that but HR will approve the termination request without ANY proof of the baseless claims, and after you are unlawfully and wrongfully terminated, you provide evidence, fool proof, cold hard facts and evidence that included screenshots and text messages, and informed HR of the Stalking/Sexual Harassment you had been dealing with alone because management stood by and did nothing even after you were followed into the women's bathroom with the door shut and blocked by a man who was a customer that was sexually harrasing you and stalking you everyday while you were working. To the point you were in constant fear and high alert having to have other male employees stay with you while the man was in the store just so you had some small feeling of safety. But management makes jokes about it, every employee in the store knows the man and the situation and how sketchy the whole situation is, they all know that he is stalking you and all are VERY concerned for your safety, except for your boss who should be taking steps to protect you. But your manager never confronts the man, never contacts the police or even notifys HR or even the District manager of the ongoing Harassment and stalking. But after all that, even after informing HR when they asked you what you wanted to the outcome of sharing all this information to be, you tell them you just want your job back, you are basically ignored and pushed out so they don't have to deal with you and accommodate you with a flexible schedule anymore even though you worked your butt off for them every single day and always worked your full shift and then some, but because the manager didn't like you, and didn't like that you were accomodated with a flexible schedule that allowed you to have more flexible shift start and end time, as long as you worked your full shift and completed all your tasks and kept your production up, which you went above and beyond those terms because you were grateful for the accomodation you truly needed. In spite of that you are out of a job for doing absolutely nothing wrong, for accusations that have been proven to be baseless. While the manager who lied to get rid of a ADA APPROVED QUALIFIED DISABLED PERSON, just because she didn't like accommodating you, the same manager who smokes marijuana in the parking lot on the clock, the same manager who steals from the store, the same manager that is toxic to everyone around her, extremely two faced, only out for themselves, is not leadership material, doesn't have any employees respect or trust, creates a hostile work environment and doesn't like anyone she sees as competition that does their job well enough to be noticed and complimented by upper management, or anyone that doesn't do what they are told no questions asked even if what they are asked to do is wrong. Beware, this place only care about it's sales quotas and how much money they can make profitting off the free donations they receive while refusing to actually help the people in need that these donations are supposed to be used for to begin with. Numerous homeless people and disadvantaged individuals were turned down when asking for assistance, they were told to contact red cross for further assistance as if half the people that came looking for clothing, shoes, everyday necessities, had time to wait around for a red cross application to be approved just to get three tops and three bottoms since that's what was allowed to be given after approved. Meanwhile they barely pay you a living wage, just enough to still qaulify for food stamps because without it you would definitely not be surviving on $9 an hour, 40 hrs a week, biweekly paychecks, that's barely enough to pay a months rent in this economy. Definitely not rent , electric, water, gas bill, car insurance, phone bills, gas money just to get back and forth to work, so you can forget any of those things especially groceries unless you get government assistance, then you might just be able to Penny pinch your way through life and I do mean penny pinch down to counting out change for gas to get to work for a place that doesn't even care about you in the least bit.

Pros

I enjoyed my customer service work - helping people as a part of a larger mission to help the community. I found it rewarding to advance to supervisor and pick up new skills and responsibilities such as safety auditing and supply management. And of course it was always interesting to sort all the interesting and unique donated goods.

Kontras

A change in management over the past year+ has been very difficult for me. I found my work more heavily scrutinized and criticized in ways that felt unclear and unfair. The new manager had a clear bias towards certain employees, gossiped openly and loudly and often with explicit HIPAA violations, and made it literally impossible for me to keep track of inventory supplies as a part of my responsibilities. Communication between management and associates - and even between management and supervisors is very poor. Workplace culture has seemed to shift from being very flexible and people-oriented to more stringent on policy and focused on revenue. Trust in upper management is strained. Day to day if you stick to your task and focus on production, you'll probably do well. But for me it isn't what it used to be.
