A wave of depression came over me when I easily drained my savings account from my previous career. Each month I over drafted, and I took from my savings. Still, I had hopes that soon I would get a raise but it never happened. I had lunch at my desk mostly, and sometimes we had to do data entry for weeks at a time. Everyone was in the room together, entering data. There were windows in the room but some complained about the sunlight and the blinds were shut for over 10 hours. The company bought us lunch during these times so that we didn’t leave the office. I went outside to touch the fence to get fresh air and back inside. I was unable to be a daughter, a girlfriend and good roommate. I didn’t make dinner or come home in time to eat with my boyfriend. I never exercised. I wasn’t even empowered or felt that I learned anything for my own growth. I was decaying. I started to come home and cry a lot. I regretted my move and decided to go to therapy to talk about it to make a decision and just vent! It was after an entire weekend of working from home until 12:30 am Sunday night (on salary, no overtime), weeks to data entry and not actually doing the career that I had originally been passionate about, listening to snarky comments of unhappy employees and my own unhappy thoughts, I decided I need to leave regardless if I had a job set up. Today, I have a lifestyle that I am proud of. I work for a great company that cares about their employees and there is transparency about the company’s future. I see my career path where I am and I’m setting up for success.
