Good office location and benefits package. The equipment and software packages you need to complete your job are often easily requested and accessible. It's a small team at Freesat so you will genuinely get to know everyone and there are regular social events planned throughout the year to encourage good relationships between teams - which is desperately needed.

When you attend an interview for Freesat you will be given a well-rehearsed pitch about "how there has never been a better time to join the company" and "how they are a small company with BIG ambitions". Don't be fooled! This marketing pitch is the only campaign they actually put any thought and effort into. During my time at Freesat I witnessed so many ambitious and talented people meet the same fate; undervalued, under-paid and ultimately left with no option but to move on. Whilst those, whose only interest is self-preservation and collecting a pay cheque make life difficult for anyone wanting to make real change. Often resulting in them being bullied out of the company. This seemed particularly prevalent in the marketing department. What was once an environment that encouraged creative thinking and collaboration is now a hotbed of egotistical decision-making of shambolic proportions. And these problems reach all the way to the top. So until there are some big changes I wouldn't put yourself through the mental strain it takes on you. If you don't want to leave your career ambitions, ideas and enthusiasm at the door each morning, then DO NOT accept a job role here.

In spite of the astronomical turnover, there are still some really great people working there who are really supportive and have great ideas.

To anyone thinking of working for them, please steer clear. It is truly the worst place I have ever worked. The senior management team (with the exception of the strategy director who carries the whole company) are some of the most ineffective management I’ve ever seen. You won’t be listened to or valued or paid properly (unless you’re a tech contractor) and if you work in marketing there’s a high chance you’ll get bullied out of the company because you don’t “fit.” There are some great people in tech who really want to make a good product and care deeply about the service but they aren’t listened to and end up ostracised. The new product has been rushed out, doesn’t work and is too expensive. It is the opposite of what all the long term Freesatters had wanted to do but reflects the direction the company is going in, it is now treating its consumers with the same contempt it treats its staff. This all comes from the top so until there are some serious changes in management please don’t work there, it is a very damaging and unsafe environment where you won’t be allowed to achieve anything.
