Pros

I loved how with this job, I was paid to learn and share about my favorite city in the country. Working with students during school tour season was an annual highlight as their questions always inspired new ways of thinking and new perspectives through which I could view the sites I had visited hundreds of times. Having a flexible schedule was a valuable perk of the job and it was nice for my time at work to be spent moving outside rather than cooped up in an office space.

Kontras

It can be difficult to have a tourism based job especially because your work hours are others' free hours (e.g. nights and weekends). It is not uncommon to give a tour for one or two guests during a snow or rainstorm, which often results in an uncomfortable experience and meager pay. While the earnings generally enough, it can be difficult to plan financially when you have no base salary and all income depends on tips from guests. Also as a contract worker there are no insurance or retirement benefits available.

The fact that it's a name your own price tour, sometimes people don't know what to tip. This at times however is also a pro.
