Pros
I worked as a 1099 contractor through FocalPointe for several years. The pay was actually pretty respectable. Assignments could sometimes be a bit unfulfilling but not unbearable. The workload did have a tendency to be feast or famine. You could be working 14 hours on some days and barely have enough to keep busy on others. But to be fair, most of that was due to the nature of the client's industry. Until recently, I was very satisfied with the level of contact from account managers and recruiters. They would occasionally check in to see how everything was going and keep you informed about upcoming opportunities. Unfortunately that all inexplicably changed.
Kontras
Apparently their policy is now to "ghost" contractors after their contract ends. As far as I know, none of the client people in former work groups had issues with my performance. In fact I'm still in contact with a few of them and have used them for references. However in spite of several attempts to phone or email FocalPointe recruiters or account managers to ask about upcoming contract opportunities, I've received no response. Not a peep. Not so much as a "Sorry, we have nothing available right now" email. This seems like a pretty unprofessional way to manage a staffing firm.
