Pros
I am female, started out as a PT package handler, and then worked my way to the position that I wanted. Looking to get your foot into the Logistics & Transportation/Warehouse industry? Start here as a Package Handler. Learn all you can, get your workout on, stay hydrated, do your work safely, keep a positive attitude (no job is perfect), talk with management (or learn who to talk to), then move to next opportunity for you within or outside of FedEx. If you can’t communicate with management your concerns, goals, problems or emergencies, and embrace constant change, then this job is not for you. Weekly paycheck, coworkers, various shifts available, various warehouses available, can work at other domiciles, benefits for part-time employees, can learn other areas (if you are motivated and want to), and the work isn’t difficult.
Kontras
Noise, laborious repetitive work, equipment in some of warehouses are old and malfunctions, computer terminals for employees (accessibility issues), some packages are very heavy, heat in warehouse during spring/summer (unless the warehouse has a/c), sometimes there is lack of communication, hiring process for moving into a different position is way too slow, some managers do not know how to manage people (but this happens at any job), and some coworkers are toxic (happens at every job). Long hours during peak season.
