There is an excessive workload from understaffing, the pay is low, and the work environment is messy and antiquated (digitally and physically). Management is shortsighted, stingy, inflexible, old fashioned, difficult to communicate with, and frequently diverts accountability to subordinates. Negative reinforcement is the preferred management style. Office gossip is excessive largely due to a single, difficult employee who is almost impossible to speak to directly without verbal confrontation. There is little room for advancement, especially in the case of the print designer position. Any advancement consists of increased responsibility with minimum or nonexistent compensation. Superiors are not forthcoming with annual raises or bonuses and employees must take the initiative to negotiate them individually.
