Pros

Good office location, close to the train stations. They are making an effort to improve the social culture. Free food on occasion from the photography studio, plus alternating breakfast/drinks on Fridays. Casual dress code (maybe too casual, as a lot of the women misinterpret what is casual in an professional space & tend to wear things like short shorts, skimpy tops & off the shoulder sweaters)

Kontras

The office space is colorful and creative — until you get into the Production department, which is like a sweatshop, bleak with zero creative decor. It’s kind of fitting, as I think that department is regarded as low on the Equator ladder. There is an unequal treatment across departments. For example, some employees in certain departments are allowed to work from home, while it’s not allowed in others. New employees in some departments are introduced via an email to the whole company, while in another a new person just shows up one day. There is a lack of communication & teamwork between, & within departments. People in some departments have left, and no announcement was ever made. Asking questions about a process or standard is often met with defensiveness or looked upon as if you don’t know what you’re doing because “that’s how we do it” or “everyone should know that.” New people do not receive adequate training, at least in my experience. The process for circulating projects is continuously changing and not in order to make it streamlined, it has changed from having everything done on line to printed job tickets that have to be passed around by hand & are hard to keep track of. No “good job” or “thank you” at least in my department. The only feedback I’ve seen or received is negative. They have a suggestion box for employees to give ideas to. We did get an email outlining some of the suggestions, and they were mostly all shot down including requests to make paychecks biweekly instead of once a month. We did get some silverware and a limited snacks, so there is that. They are making an effort to make it a more fun culture but it’s not enough to make up for all the other negatives.

Pros

I was a summer intern at Equator Design and had an amazing experience! I learned so much in such a short amount of time as I was lucky enough to learn from three different departments, account management, photography and pr/marketing. My supervisors, Andi Summers, Lisamarie Cerny and Sally Mackrill were all incredibly supportive and informative.

Kontras

I have nothing negative to say.

Pros

Nice people, cool office space, good designer scheduling system/management -- allows designers to end their days at 8 hours which is uncommon at an agency.

Kontras

Low salaries, no growth opportunities, toxic people in leadership positions, non-existent culture.
