Pros
It’s a job that will help you pay the bills as you figure out what you want to do with your life.
Kontras
- The pay is below the national average in this field of work. I can only imagine that management thinks it’s appropriate to pay their employees peanuts since the cost of living in Utah is not as high as in other states. - This place has such a “bro atmosphere” to the extent that I found it insufferable. But hey, if you’re an 18 to 45+ year old male who acts like a perpetual frat boy who peaked while eeking his way through a cake degree, then you’ll fit right in, - This line of work is very unfulfilling. The transportation industry as a whole is in dire straits, with more and more government regulations inhibiting the effectiveness of drivers on the road, as well as fewer people willing to replace the current drivers who are dying off, retiring, or out right quitting. The drivers who stick around know they are in high demand, and don’t really take professional performance seriously, which means that they need to be monitored on a 24/7 basis. Yes, this is a 24/7 job, and you will be expected to be on-call frequently. Yeah...self-driving trucks can’t come soon enough. - If you’re in school, and are considering doing an internship here: don’t do it. Believe me, there are plenty of other opportunities around here in career fields that are far more fun and fulfilling than logistics. Your time is valuable, use it wisely, and invest it in things that can benefit your professional life and actually take you places.
