Pros
If you appreciate a laid back, informal, at times unorganized and inefficient work environment, then Elephant is the place for you. If you have recently graduated from college, have plenty of savings already and don't need a salary large enough to pay your bills, Elephant is the place for you. Also if you want to work somewhere with no dress code, Elephant is for you. I'm sure you would be sent home if you wore a bathing suit but short shorts - go for it.
Kontras
Elephant likes to be so laid back that it crosses the line with ineffective. Folks play more than they work. For every good hire, they hire 2 more unqualified people. The good hire ends up doing the work of three people. They are CHEAP and their success or lack there of reflects their frugality. They have had to replace nearly all (but one) of their original Directors since their start in 2008. They have had to replace each major operational system; their billing system, policy system, and claim system all have at one point failed and needed replacing. I believe it boils down to the choice to hire either unqualified or severely under qualified folks with the belief that they can train them to be up to par. Unfortunately training is not their strong suit. The trainers are too under qualified. There is no structured performance management process. Therefore, promotions often go to those who don't question management decisions, or friends of management. Successful companies employee individuals who dare to challenge decisions. Successful companies encourage employees to share their ideas, and to voice their concerns. You will not earn a salary large enough to pay your bills. No dress code. I wear jeans every day to my current job, which I love. I was actually uncomfortable with some of the women employees clothing choices.
