Pros
Flexible remote and hybrid work. Really intelligent, kind, and respectful associates and partners in many areas of the firm.
Kontras
Management is beyond poor, particularly in the uppermost levels of the firm. Many members of senior management— especially CEO and Chief of Staff — are childish and vindictive. The culture is truly exhausting, as you will be working with little work-life balance and arbitrary compensation, overworked attorneys, and members of senior management who care a little too much about making music videos and throwing expensive parties— and if you raise valid concerns about all this, said members will come down on you with a disproportionate amount of force. Additionally, the firm boasts about a commitment to diversity and employee health, as well as a genuine desire to achieve justice and the best possible outcomes for its clients. In my experience, Edelson’s “commitment” to diversity and employee health does not appear to be backed by any internal practices (retention rate of diverse employees does not seem great, on top of a generally terrible retention rate, especially for supporting staff). As for caring about clients, it’s a nice sentiment that many important Edelson individuals like to repeat on all kinds of platforms, but the firm comes up short in this area as well. It was a sad moment for me when I realized a firm I first thought was so genuinely good really only possesses an extraordinary sense of self-righteousness.
