Pros
Your fellow field geologists are understanding and awesome! It is a paying job. You get paid your wage for overtime hours.
Kontras
You are paid the minimum amount so the company can avoid time and a half overtime. There will be very few weeks you work less than 50 hours. Lunch breaks sometimes happen and sometimes not (most of the time not) since you are tied to your contractor and if they don't take lunch or rotate for lunch you don't get lunch. The management does not listen or cares about the clients. (most clients don't even know them) You use your personal car to drive on construction sites that are in various stages of development. from mud to the partial pavement You get paid $0.45 per mile but the office charges the client $0.55. You get paid $17.12 while the office charges ~$80. The dental and vision insurance is not that good. Medical insurance is not that good. To top it all off this is CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION, with no geology related work. you go to construction sites and make sure the contractors are doing the job they were hired for. There is no geology related work associated with this position. if you have your PG you are basically throwing your career away.
