9yHi, this is Nanci Meadows, People Champion at Dynamic Events. I am so sorry to hear that you had such a clearly frustrating time when you worked at Dynamic Events. I do not believe you and I worked together as it appears that your employment was prior my joining the team. However, I can assure you that we have experienced many positive changes in the last two years which are reflected in the most recent reviews of our current colleagues.
At the beginning of this year we implemented an anonymous survey tool, TINYpulse, to assist us in gathering feedback from our team members. Our happiness scores are fantastic and continue to improve as time goes by. In fact, last month we exceeded the national standard benchmark for happiness among all companies surveyed. We’re pretty proud of that stat, because it demonstrates that we are becoming what we aspire to be – a team of people who are passionate about what they do and how they do it.
We acknowledge that satisfaction and leadership come not from just a few people “at the top” of an organization, but from every person who makes up that company. This is why we are implementing Self-Managed Teams at Dynamic Events in 2017. By 2018, teams will be responsible for all the functions that managers typically do in a traditional, hierarchical organization. Teams will own everything from how projects are managed to the budgets (including salaries) and even hiring and firing. We have all agreed that people should not manage people – they should manage commitments.
We also implemented an Unlimited Minimum Two Week PTO policy over a year ago. Team members connect with each other to ensure that their responsibilities are met and then they take the time off that they need or want. It’s called “minimum two week” because everyone must take at least two weeks off per year. Again, this isn’t something managers decide, it is determined by teams for teams. Just another way we’re working hard to give the responsibility and authority to those who can manage it best – each other!
Because it requires that every person be highly accountable for their areas of work and not dependent upon a "superior" to monitor or manage their every step, this environment is not for everyone. We understand that and respect that some may choose to join more traditional organizations where decisions are owned by a select few and employees need only be concerned with the directives they receive.
I truly wish the best for you in your future endeavors. I welcome your interest in following Dynamic Events as we progress and evolve. I am happy to talk with you in person should you be willing to reach out to me directly, as I am always open to learning how we might improve the work we do together.
Best,
Nanci Meadows
