Pros
A year ago I would have given 5 stars. I joined a remote-first company with top-notch engineering talent, an excellent culture, righteous values, and the opportunity to build great software. That's going away (see "cons"). It might still be worth joining, if you're not sensitive to risk and wouldn't mind working for a larger publicly-traded company, should DataStax get acquired. Just go in with eyes open.

The CEO has been on a layoff spree since starting about a year ago. The previous management team were very good at attracting top talent and building a great culture; but not so good at devising and executing a strategy for taking the company public. It seems the board got impatient, and are trying recoup at least part of their investments by realigning the company's strategic direction and shedding head count in hopes of an acquisition. (In the current economic climate, an IPO seems unlikely.) When negotiating compensation, be aware that any stock options they offer will be worthless, as the company is heavily diluted.
