Pros

- No pressure, no one is held accountable - Transport, next to Wynyard - Good package/salary

Kontras

- Very top-heavy, many chiefs come from corporate world - old traditional egomaniacs - Decision thrusted from top, not collaborative - It is a corporate style 'startup', you will be sick of many meetings, very little progress or releases, impossible to innovate, things move very very very slowly. If you like meetings, this is the place for you. - management doesn't understand or care about people - no culture at all, candidates are sold on many dream/vision, in reality there is none, no trust in the company and is always chaotic - no agreements whatsoever, things change every day, lot of activities & lack of prioritization - good vision without a plan to execute or don't know how to execute/deliver - recruits talented people for really low-profile, mediocre work (don't fall for brand or name) - don't fall for ESOPs, you wont last this place. If you don't believe, I'm very sorry for you. - no intellectual property - total lie, no big data, governance is just a simple web application, not secure, no security standards

Hi there, First off, thanks for taking the time to leave this feedback on working at Data Republic. When I took on the CEO position at Data Republic in February 2019, employee reviews like yours helped me to understand where I needed to direct my efforts. We’ve always had big aims to help the world unlock the power of data by building our own governed ‘Data Republic’. But I’ll be the first to admit that when I joined as CEO it was clear that the team was not working effectively, due to a lot of the things you mentioned in your review. Now that I’m 6+months in, I wanted to take the time to respond here with some information on what we’ve been working on to address some of the issues raised above. There are three big areas that we have worked hard to improve over the course of 2019: 1) Corporate and Technology strategy alignment 2) Accountability and teamwork 3) Devolving decision-making Under each of these areas I have actioned new processes and structures with the team to empower our people. Here are a few examples: - I’ve separated product and technology teams and changed reporting structures. - The engineering, product and technology teams have been empowered under new leadership structures to define strategic priorities, roadmap and headcount plans. - We’ve hired a new CTO and are building the team to build the product that fits with our ambitious vision. - We’ve rolled out 360 reviews across the company. I’m personally reviewing and working with People Leaders to up their game. - I’ve devolved day-to-day decision-making to 3 x cross-functional councils: People, Product, Pipeline & Customer. These councils are empowered to make decisions on roadmap and customer prioritisation, people and HR initiatives and what we’re saying ‘no’ to. This empowers our team to move faster and gives everyone a voice. There’s more (too much to write here) but people looking at these reviews should know that I’m 100% committed to making Data Republic and our People successful. Finally, thank you again for your honest review/s - I do read them and will always be here to listen about how we can be better. - Danny Gilligan, CEO and CoFounder

Pros

- Low pressure environment. Hours aren't crazy long. - Some great people - Central location - Slightly above market rates for most jobs

Kontras

- Very top-heavy. Lots of chiefs and few indians. Many chiefs come from years in the corporate world. - Mostly funded by retail banks and the like and that brings with it a certain mentality that is often at odds with the nature of a startup. Banks aren't known for their innovation it shows in a lot of what goes on. - There is no real consensus on what the product is and as a consequence there is a lot of activity shooting in often conflicting or unknown directions. - No real culture. Seem to be good at selling one of the many visions to candidates but very quickly most realise it is not what it said on the label. - Lots and lots of meetings that have no discernible purpose and pretty much go nowhere. If you like meetings, this is the place for you.
