Pros

If you work in IT, you get to work with some really great technology. There are some really powerful machines there. From an experience standpoint, Dish is pretty good.

The management values its employees like slaves. The job is great for someone who is single, but for someone who has a family or personal life that is important to you, you will either need to give it up to be as dedicated as Dish wants, or just not join the Dish team. They pay far less than most of their competitors. The company insurance plans are terrible in comparison with those of my peers at other companies. The company uses scripts to check your time in the building but they don't count time outside of core hours, so for IT people, you do a lot of unpaid work. On top of that, you are required to work 42.5 hours per week at a minimum. Also, they don't pay for working at home. You must have 42.5 hours in the building per week or you get flagged and fired at the next layoff. In regards to time off, if you use your sick time on a Monday or a Friday, you get flagged in the system because it's possible you're misusing your sick time for a three day weekend. If you use sick time near a holiday, you also get flagged. If you use your sick time near your vacation time, you also get flagged. They have yearly mass-firings of exactly 10% to boost their end of the year profits (they did more than 10% a few years ago but the percentage was too high for it to be classified as a firing and they had to back-pay unemployment). If you're flagged enough times in their system, you're the one to go. The worst part about this is they tell the employees in the all team meeting that it was a firing, not a layoff. You're required to work ridiculous hours often without additional time off. If you work a Saturday, it doesn't contribute to your 42.5. The politics make progress very difficult to make when it comes to certain things (IE: upgrading operating systems, server hardware, employee hardware, etc). My guess is the people up top are having their pockets lined by their vendors. In short, the company is extremely tyrannical and ruthless with its employees. If you're not 110% on board with their vision and way of doing things, you're done.

Pros

Work from home is the only pro I can think of

They don’t provide any equipment aside from the computer itself. They mislead you during the interview and job description. You are paid according to price of product sold and close rate however it’s all inbound calls and you can not call back. The inbound calls are lousy, people who don’t even have a $1 on a card in order to do the eligibility check, or no card at all.. poor credit which leads to higher out of pocket costs. I think only a handful of times I couldn’t overcome the spousal objection or the just shopping objection. Those I will take responsibility for but if I’m getting calls from people who don’t have a card or don’t have a $ or don’t have the money to put down OR already have an account or is a mis-transfer or were passed along because the technicians have to make referrals even though the customer isn’t actually interested in the product yet the tech makes them still call.. that’s crap and it’s not real sales.
