Pros
Everyone that works there strongly believes in CE's mission and CE provides great community events and support to adults with disabilities.
Kontras
While working there I faced sexism from coworkers and a lot of sexual harrassment from the artists. There were comments made about my "coochie" in front of my supervisors who were all men. HR was not present in any form of intervention and I was told by my supervisors to go and talk to other female staff I did not even know about how they deal with being harassed. There are not young women of color working there for a reason. The majority of their staff are non-poc men and older women. CE celebrates and promotes the artists that are the most problematic in the organization, the individuals who only want to draw naked women and would "love to draw [me]" along with artists who very blatantly hate young women, and artists who regularly spew political hate. Although these artists face many challenges and have disabilities it feels as if CE is condoning these behaviors rather than acknowledging it without any consideration for its staff. Working here was the most dehumanizing experience I've ever had and I am disappointed it took place at an organization that has such a beautiful mission and such deep roots in SF. On top of it all, the pay is incredibly poor for SF rates and there is no mobility when it comes to career growth. There was someone working there for over 10 years who was getting paid at the same rate as I was when I started and in the same position. I would strongly recommend skipping applying if you are a woman as no one should have to experience these things in the workplace.
