Lively company with nice offices in the heart of Bristol. Cookpad has a fun mission and some good people.

I worked there for a short time and decided to move on to a place with a more egalitarian culture and less chaos. Some of the senior staff are unbearably bullish.

I worked fully remotely however had in my current contract commitment to visit an office for a week every quarter. All accomodation was paid even when I decided that it would be better for me to spend couple of hours travelling by train to be able to spend at least some time with family during this week. The company is built around cooking and it's in DNA, during the lunch break often people was not going to pick some take away or sandwich from supermarket, people usually was just going to canteen and cook something and share with teammates. It was a tradition which really bond people together and cousine is the best way to share the culture. Despite of those huge focus on cooking there were a good team of strong professionals some of them is a public speakers or big contributors into open source tools. The company as well big open source contributor and encouraging employers to share with community As well Cookpad was an organiser various tech meetups in Bristol and encouraging "selling" the company brand for outer world Huge compensation paid during lay off

Company is Japanese and European or North American market is not something where it has big business presense. Therefore when something is going bad in European market cutting off headcount is happening in Europe not in headquarter. That's actually how I ended my beatiful 9 months journey in the company - very frustrating moment for me but company made everything possible to reduce risks of losing visa for me and those teammates who was on visa
