Pros

It's so rare to be at a company where you truly feel like you're building something special and completely new. Compass is that kind of place. Everyone who has made it inside the door realizes how special it is. The rare combination of smart business model, incredible technology and world class talent across every department. The Mission resonates and the new principles are put to use by every team member (and often called out when there are wins!). The team makes mistakes because the move fast but people don't dwell on them. The culture is great, office spaces are nice and the ethos and passion to help agents grow their business is woven into EVERYTHING the company does. The product & engineering team is actually shipping beautiful and effective products and there is plenty of room to dream big.

Kontras

It can be stressful sometimes because of the speed and amount of new faces all the time. There is a decent amount of staff transition but the top performers are supported and given huge amounts of responsibility and it just seems like the company is re-loading for the huge next phase of the business.

Pros

People are smart. Very much a “move fast and break things” culture which can be refreshing compared to bureaucracy-heavy corporate life. I don’t agree with their values (if they have any) but what they’re doing is unquestionably working - business outlook is strong.

Kontras

Leadership will tell you there’s no ego or self-interest involved in their strategy - that is untrue. It’s an extremely heliocentric culture around the CEO. A lot of the work is based around what people they're guessing he’ll like, but there’s no alignment at the outset and something you worked on for weeks/months will be trashed after one look from him. Their mission is ostensibly about empowering agents but they are solving a problem that pretty much no one was complaining about before they started, and which just so happens to work highly in their favor in terms of market share. It’s just business but very disingenuous- don’t believe the hype that it’s altruistic somehow. Also the CEO loves to share his sob story about his single mother upbringing, but simultaneously enacts some of the most anti-parent policies you could think of.
