After being pursued by a recruiter for a Paralegal position at Microsoft, I was told it was not a traditional paralegal job, but that I would be basically processing a high volume of I9's under the legal department. The background checks and onboarding took over a month, and during COVID-19 I was told remote work was not an option for this 18 month contract. After my first week on site, I knew something was wrong. I was never introduced to my team [who was working remotely] and I was left to sit alone in a large conference room at the Redmond campus. While sitting in complete isolation, I was expected to train myself, 8 hours a day literally reading "playbooks". The two colleagues I was supposed to work with, [I had only met them once in person], scheduled daily meetings with me, and repeatedly "tested" my working knowledge of I9 completion [which I have several years of experience in], never assigning me or allowing me to do my job once outside of their "testing sessions". During the testing sessions I completed everything that was asked of me and did quite well on each test [both colleagues agreed and even said they liked me!]. After reading every playbook assigned to me, and testing me for 15 days I was fired from the position after never being allowed even one I9 to complete on my own. In addition to this, just prior to being fired I spoke with another Collabera temp who mentioned to me that they were asked to support the onboarding of several newer temps who were left without any introduction to their supervisor, or provided any direction regarding their daily tasks, work assignments, etc. This same temp had also supported my initial onboarding and was my main point of contact during my short stay at the Redmond campus. After being fired, Collabera did not explain why I was let go and after several attempts to speak with recruiters about my situation, I received no concrete explanation or response. Several recruiters assured me that they would work to find me another position and almost two months later, nothing has transpired, until I was contacted yesterday by a recruiter who essentially attempted to submit me for similar position and scenario, which also didn't add up. After speaking with the recruiter, they were unable to confirm the pay for the position and when I was sent the job description it was contrary to what had been described to me. Stay clear of this staffing agency who exploits good candidates.
