Pros

Unfortunately Chargebee has scaled rapidly and had a hard time sustaining the great culture previously held with this growth. There is a lot of burnout throughout the organization and little appreciation for wins, mostly "not good enough" mentality. Very much a number not a person mentality now. We used to have a culture where you could question the status quo and truly innovate, not anymore. Unless you're at the top you don't have a valuable opinion and if you choose to question something or your opinion doesn't match you'll be put in your place. A lot of leadership sits in India and there's a very big difference in what is expected of an employee/manager in each country that has a hub. There is a big communication gap and lack of accountability throughout the organization especially between geographies. Often times instead of solving complex problems there are bandaid fixes and when these issues resurface the blame game gets played until a new person is found to be the "problem" while the actual problem still exists just to resurfaces in time.

Krish, Co-founder here. Your feedback seems genuine, heartfelt and coming from a place of care. Thank you. I acknowledge the facts that you are pointing out that we have scaled teams rapidly in the recent past and there is a lot of change going on. And not all changes are positive and we realise that what you are pointing out could be true. I am sorry for your experience. 50% of the org is less than 9 months old and we acknowledge the need to focus internally to ensure that what is valued by individuals and must be preserved is preserved. We fundamentally believe that most managers and people have good intent to do the right thing (their version of truth) for the org but intent alone isn't enough. We have a lot of work ahead of us to over communicate the nuances of what is important here and it seems we have a huge gap here. Many of us look up to various companies for various reasons and inspirations and I look up to the Microsoft's turnaround sorry of changing their culture inside out in the recent past for inspiration. If a company of that size can do it there is a lot of hope for all of us. :-) As builders it is important to believe that it is possible. We genuinely want to build a company for the long term and this requires all those who care to help us with specific feedback and I sincerely appreciate your feedback. While I may have the intent and we may believe we are fixing things it is important that we know that we are fixing the right problems that you are pointing out to. It says you are a current employee and it is even more important feedback from that perspective. Pros

My engineering team operates together fluidly and efficiently, while remaining tightly connected to the broader organization. When projects are introduced, customer use cases and product requirements are clearly outlined so that I can fully understand the goals and the intended impact of my work. Frequent communication across the organization allows me to connect Chargebee's overall goals to my day-to-day work and understand exactly how I am contributing to the product by supporting a customer need, optimizing existing workflows, or introducing a marketable feature. Within my team, communication is equally consistent and effective. I remain well informed about what is happening in other projects, and everyone on the team is quick to respond if I have questions or want input about my own work. Resources, such as product support documents, API docs, and design records, are easily accessible, clear, and detailed. Having access to a plethora of information about existing workflows has allowed me to catch on quickly and contribute to meaningful projects shortly after joining the team. Managers promote personal career development goals by allowing engineers to work freely across the stack. With this freedom, I have acquired a wide range of skills in frontend, backend, and infrastructure development, along with a solid understanding of how these components interact in the code. The opportunity to explore all areas of the codebase has given me the confidence to scope and develop projects end to end, which has led to significant growth as a software developer.

There may not be a nearby office space available for in-person work depending on the employee’s location. In my experience, remote work at Chargebee has been effective and collaborative, with frequent communication across the organization and within my smaller team. However, if in-person work is strongly preferred, the employee can also choose to move closer to an available office space.

Pros

The product. The product is strong and has huge potential and market opportunity. Some great people that also like you didn’t know what they were getting themselves in.

Kontras

Where to start. You’ll be promised promotions, pay raises and it won’t happen. You’ll be told and made to work harder and disregard any semblance of balance and won’t be validated or regarded for your work. It’s the most political environment. Kissing up is your way to win. It’s not about who’s doing the best job it’s about WHO in leadership likes you.
