Pros

Innovative Industry: ChargeLab operates in the fast-growing EV charging infrastructure space, which makes the work exciting and future-focused. Strong Product: The CSMS (Charging Station Management System) is well-designed, modern, and competitive in the North American market—especially for Level 2 and DCFC management. Ownership Opportunities: Employees often get to take initiative and lead projects, especially in customer success, partnerships, and sales functions. Supportive Team Culture: The team is tight-knit and collaborative, with regular check-ins and a willingness to help each other. Startup Flexibility: Flexible working hours and remote work options make it easier to manage work-life balance. Exposure to Key Partners: Direct communication with major EV charger manufacturers and clients, giving great visibility into the market.

Kontras

Startup Growing Pains: As a rapidly growing company, some internal processes and tools are still evolving, but improvements are happening as the team scales. Heavy Workload: Like many startups, roles can be dynamic—requiring you to wear multiple hats and adapt to shifting priorities. The good news is, we’re actively building processes together as a team to create more balance and structure moving forward.

Pros

Fast, paced start-up environment that really gives a lot of opportunity to learn on different sectors of the business. Work was mostly remote which did provide flexibility. Some amazing, talented, and heartfelt people are within the company who really do want you to succeed.

Kontras

Upper management does not seem to care about employees as anything beyond assets to be used and discarded as necessary. Repeated requests for additional assistance or resources are repeatedly denied or ignored or “we are working on it” for months at a time. They are slow, if ever, to provide promotions or raises, and instead will constantly make excuse to string employees on for months that a raise might be coming before denying it when they could be more honest and upfront. There is a constant feeling of restructuring which usually means a constant cycle of lay-offs as they pivot to a new strategy and then a round of new hiring as they replace those roles with something different, which does not give a sense of stability. Employees generally feel undervalued, underpaid, and overworked with management showing fake empathy while making no substantial or useful changes to fix the core problems.

Pros

Work-life balance in a start-up

Kontras

This start-up once had a highly creative and capable team, but management valued structure over results. Talented people and those who really cared about the company were either let go or chose to leave, and what remains is a peaceful 9-to-5 team.
